Why do some of your products have VAT on them and others don't?

If we post or supply a paper map/plan these products are zero rated by the UK Government but if we provide a product digitally (e.g. by email) this is classed as a service and therefore VAT is applicable

Confused about map scales?

The smaller the number, the greater the detail of the map. For example: 1:500
has a greater detail than 1:10,000...

What scale do I require for Planning Permission in the UK?

Our most popular basic Planning Permission Map is a 1:1250 plan but different local authorities require different map scales - we cover them all though 1:500, 1:1250 and 1:2500

What is the difference between Vector data and Raster data?

Vector data is represented as a series of two-dimensional coordinated lines and points, Computer-aided design (CAD) systems are able to interpret this type of
digital data

Raster data represents map detail as a flat image, similar to a photograph, they are made from a matrix of individual pixels - we supply our raster data in tif format, the majority of PCs or Macs can open these products without the need to have specialist software

Ordnance Survey Licensing

Best Practice - OS

Digital Data (ie plans by email)

Ordnance Survey mapping is protected under Crown copyright by virtue of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. Copying of mapping can be authorised under separate copyright licences depending upon the intended use.

Benefits of licensed data By adopting best practice and ensuring that the mapping you use is properly licensed you can take advantage of the following benefits:

You have the reassurance of using location-based information from a trusted content provider with data sourced from the master map of Great Britain
Being legitimately licensed supports your reputation in the marketplace
Maintaining an up-to-date licence is a legal requirement for use of Ordnance Survey data. Not having the correct licence could invalidate your indemnity insurance and result in costly legal fees

All the Mapping data we supply includes a licence per product (included in the price) - simply check on the licence tab on each product page.. for more details on licensing click here
